Hadnall Village Hall Committee AGM 7 April 2010

Chairman’s Report

The last year has been a good year for the Village Hall, finances have made good progress and there have been no major crises!  The lack of a cleaner for most of the year did put a lot of pressure on the ladies, in particular Margaret Thomas who takes a particular pride in the cleanliness of the whole site – many thanks to them.  There have been a number of working parties through the year – extra cleaning, repairs to things and clearing the ivy off the wall.  Thanks to everyone involved in those events.

Last year’s fete was a particular success with a very good sum raised (£1942).  As usual everyone rallied round and a most enjoyable day (if not tiring!) was had by all.  The fine weather did make a lot of difference and there seemed to be a greater number of people than usual.

2009 was a sad year for the Village with the loss of two of the most hardworking villagers.  The Village Hall Committee was pleased and privileged to organised a choral evening in memory of Roy Tonge and Bill Cruickshank (both former chairman of the Village Hall amongst many other achievements).  Shrewsbury Police Choir gave us a memorable evening and we were able to raise £820 or the Shropshire Blood Fund Trust

The quiz at Christmas proved to be another successful evening with the Hadnall Bowling Club winning the trophy for the final time.  Bryan Thomas has donated a new trophy for the Village Hall’s second century – many thanks to Bryan for his generous gift.

The committee has been busy through the year discussing new documentation and processes for the Hall’s business activities which are due to be rolled out in the next year.

Eventually the much promised shed appeared – too big and in the wrong place! This did allow us to clear the gym equipment from the Hall when needed.  It has now been cut down and put in a suitable place.  The area around it is due to be concreted and tidied up.  The area will then be signed to prevent parking during events. (It is the fire exit route.)

With the Village Hall’s Centenary this year there is a little extra to do so I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thankyou to all the committee for their untiring hard work and hope they will be able to continue the good work I the coming year.

Unfortunately Di Rogers will not be able to stay on the Committee for the coming year.  I would like to thank her for all the hard work she has done for the Committee (much of it behind the scene) preparing our safety documentation.  We are in a much better position because of her work.

Tony Collins –
Chair (2009-2010)

At the meeting Margaret Thomas submitted her resignation from the Committee. The Village Hall has therefore lost the services of a very hard working and committed committee member. Over the 11 years that Margaret has been on the committee, it is hard to overstate the huge amount that she has done for the village hall. The whole Committee would like to say a massive THANKYOU for everything. She will be impossible to replace.

However the Committee does find itself in need of two new members. Anyone wishing to volunteer would be most welcome.
